Bottom line is funnel your energy into Any CONSTRUCTIVE ACTIVITY you can think of.
Here are some I thought of.
ENTER AUDETTE’S 10 TIPS
1.) Give your Promo Materials a Mini Makeover.
This may mean going over your unprocessed photos & finding the new best crop & editing them. This may mean putting together a synopsis PDF of your skills & rates & links. This may mean scheduling a Photo Shoot or 3 & getting shiny new images of yourself, your act, your new costume/prop etc…
This may mean making some tweaks to your web site or hiring someone to polish your logo or bio or about page.
P.S. I will be offering 3 free/trade slots in my photo studio in Berkeley the next 3 weeks
2.) Consume Quality Educational Content Relevant to your Industry
Say no to Netflix & Yes to SKILLSHARE, TEACHABLE, CREATIVE LIVE, YOUTUBE UNIVERSITY etc…
This is a great time to study & practice a Skill or up your game with a Software you’ve been wanting to improve on, or get better at your makeup or video editing skills.
About the Investment: There is of course heaps of free educational content to be found online (but you have to wade through a bunch of crappy content to find it) & there are reasonable to middle end subscription services such as Skillshare & then of course there are a plethora of expensive courses promising you great success at 2-5k a pop.
Let’s hold off signing up for any high end programs right now.
Truth: What you Integrate & Implement is what matters the most. You can get huge value from a $40 investment if you really put in the time to digest the material & apply it to your unique situation.
3.) Get more intentional with your Social Networking.
i.e. stop using FB, IG, Pinterest as a place to escape & graze through other people’s content & decide on 1 Platform that you want to focus & really uplevel your game.
Read a lot & watch videos & perhaps purchase a reasonably priced course training you on strategies for that 1 platform. Create a Content Plan that has variety but is simple enough that you will actually do it consistently.
Also strengthen your relationship with those who you can collaborate with or who are in a position to offer you more bookings & opportunities.
4.) Read BOOKS!
If we are supposed to stay away from other humans for a while… that sounds like a great excuse to catch up on reading. 🙂
I suggest that you have at least 1 book that falls into the mindset & skill development department such as a Business Book & 1 book that just makes your weary mind happy to escape into. Like a good fantasy book or whatever floats your literary boat.
A Few of my Fave Non-Fiction BOOKS are Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, Atomic Habits by James Clear, Fire Starter Sessions by Danielle LaPorte, Making Ideas Happen by Scott Belsky, & Traction by Geno Wickman)
5.) Revisit your GOALS
This is a great time to reflect on your 5 year & 3 year & 1 year Goals. Where are you heading & what are you creating??What does that mean for your next Quarter? What is 1 juiciest goal that you can focus on that has nothing to do with how the outside world is behaving?
Now is a great time to pour your energy into one of those goals that is important yet often illusive.
6.) Plan something Fantastic for 3rd or 4th Quarter
Set your sights on something that you could create this year… but that will take you 3-9 months to do so. Start mind-mapping & plotting & getting excited about it. Enroll a collaborator or 3. Take on something a bit ambitious that you can start working on right away & will pay off after this virus scare has (hopefully) blown over.
7.) Do some Personal Growth Work.
You are the foundation of your brand. You are your greatest asset & your biggest liability so any work you do investing in healing & growing yourself into a better version of yourself will contribute to your success in the world.
Self work can take a lot of forms… from taking a mini retreat in nature & doing a lot of reflection & journaling to joining group therapy or working with a coach. If there are some habits or patterns that are undermining or even sabatoging you… take a deep look at them. If there is a healthy habit or practice you’ve been attracted to but haven’t taken the time to install in your life… prioritize it now.
Share this with a partner or best friend or journal (not your facebook wall)
8.) Do some Brand Growth Work.
What is it about the Artists & Companies that you admire that you can step into in your own authentic way?
Are you a personal brand but want to have more name recognition? Do you have a new biz you want to turn into fully proper biz? Or a brand that needs clarification & polishing?
What are the next steps you need to take to push your professionalism to it’s next level?
What is the next refinement or iteration look like? How can you close the gap & claim it now??
9.) Forge or Strengthen your Strategic Alliances
Relationships are one of the first things that often get pushed by the wayside in the hustle & grind.
Nurture some of your familial & soulful relationships that haven’t been given enough attention lately.
Also think in terms of who you would love to collaborate with, perform with, produce with, be represented by, etc… & think about how you can connect with those people & start to grow your rapport with them. What can you offer to those who could later help you?
10.) Volunteer for a Cause you Care about+ Strategic Volunteering
The first part of this is a no agenda choosing of a cause you feel passionate about & find a way to support it. Call the local org & ask if they have any needs or volunteer opportunities. Spread the word about a solution or positive development.
When I say strategic volunteering there is an agenda for this. This is a thought- out offer to do something for free- because you need the experience it will give you. For example if you have been considering doing photography professionally then offer to do a free photo shoot to 3 local organizations who’s work you respect & use those photos & their testimonial about how it was to work with you to get your first paying client. Or volunteer to perform your brand new act at a children’s hospital for free… & make sure you bring along someone with a good camera so you get good footage of this act for your promo… while also bringing joy to kids who are dealing with more than you.
Think of something you would like to get paid to do in the future that you don’t have enough experience in… & find places to offer that thing for free.
